The Meaning of Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day has come around again, and you are scratching your head trying to think up a gift that you haven’t already gotten your mother. Before you head out to the mall, take a moment to consider what Mother’s Day really means.

A Time of Love

For as long as the human race as been in existence, motherhood has been regarded as one of the most remarkable things that a woman can accomplish. The ability to carry a child and have it grow inside of her for 9 months is no easy task, and after the child is born, next comes trying to raise the child in the best way possible. Mother’s Day is a time to honor the deeds of motherhood.

Think back to the earliest memory you have of your mother. Chances are you were quite young, a baby even, and your mother was cooing at you, or perhaps taking you for a walk in your carriage. Think of all the things that your mother has done for you through the years.

No doubt she has taken care of you when you were sick, encouraged you to do your best work at school, and been one of your greatest supporters in life. She has also made some of the most delicious recipes you have ever tasted. Your mother is truly a special person, and Mother’s Day is a chance for you to show her how special she is.

However, Mother’s Day can be painful for some people, especially those whose mothers never cared for them. So, what does Mother’s Day mean to these people? Chances are that those who had no mothers had a surrogate mother, or a female that they admire. Mother’s Day is a chance for them to show these special women how much they mean to them.

Mother’s Day also means quite a lot to the mother herself. No doubt it is a nostalgic time for her, as she recollects all of the things that she has experienced while raising her children. It is also a time for her to think about her own mother, and whether she truly followed her mother’s advice.

So, while you are out shopping for a Mother’s Day gift, each year think of all that she has done for you. Remember, while Mother’s Day is a designated day for honoring you mother, it is just as important to show her how much she is appreciated each day too!
