Mothers Day 2006: In the US, Expect it to fall on May 14

No doubt, we must all be aware of the fact that there is a holiday to celebrate Mothers Day so that one may convey special regards to mothers all around the world in appreciation of the immense love and sacrifice that they have made for the sake of their children and families. The origin of Mothers Day lies in the traditional paying of tributes to Rhea, the mother of a lot of deities as well as Cybele, great mother of Gods. In the US, the trend of celebrating Mothers Day goes back about one hundred and fifty years and, it was Anna Jarvis who can take credit for such celebrations. Normally, one would expect Mothers Day 2006 to fall on the second Sunday of May, but there are exceptions to this rule as is the case in England where it is celebrated on the fourth Sunday in the Lent season. One can safely assume that Mothers Day 2006 will be celebrated in England sometime during the months of March and April. In any case, Mothers day is celebrated in different countries on different days. And, there is considerable confusion as to when Mothers Day 2006 will actually be celebrated each year.

Celebrated On Different Days in Different Countries

Mothers Day 2006 in the USA will necessarily be celebrated on the second Sunday of May and, is expected to fall on the 14th of May while, in Norway, it may fall on the second Sunday in the month of February and, there one may celebrate this important day on the 12th of February. So, different countries will be celebrating Mothers Day 2006 on different days. Mothers Day 2006 is a day when people can get together and work for peace and, one can even attend gala occasions in various places all across the US to celebrate this important day.

One can be sure that Mothers Day 2006 will see a huge number of cards being sent throughout the world and, the US is the third largest in this regard and, it is believed that there may be as many as, if not more than 150 million Mothers Day 2006 cards being sent before May 14th. In addition, it is expected that on Mothers Day 2006, around seventy percent of US households will celebrate this occasion with each participating household sending an average of 2.8 cards.

One will also expect consumers to spend in excess of one hundred dollars on average Mothers Day activities. Favorite items that people will be spending on include the ubiquitous flowers as well as greeting cards and, it is believed that more than half of all consumers will indeed be buying flowers come Mothers Day 2006.
