Although Mothers Day 2010 is a few months away, after you’ve planned the perfect mothers day gift,  you will need to find a really nice Mothers Day card to finish off your gift for the woman dearest to your heart. With all the different Mother’s Day cards to choose from, how do you pick the best one?

Luckily, there are some ways you can pick out an excellent one from the many special cards that are available. Don’t forget that  with Christmas falling shortly you could create a special Christmas Mother Day card to show how much you love her.

A Christmas Mother’s Day gift basket would be great to make  her smile and feel special. The gift basket could be filled with a variety of items that will make a mother very happy.  The basket could have a potpourri which could include some sweet smelling soap, some great lotions and some bubble bath.  The items could also include items such as chocolates, cookies and cake. A basket could perhaps include something useful  like a new universal remote control, a program for her computer and a couple of tickets to the latest theater production.

About Mother’s Day Cards

A Mothers Day card is the perfect way for you to express how special your mother is to you. The kind of Mothers Day card you choose depends on many different factors, but most importantly is should be based on how her year leading up to Mothers Day has been.

For example, if your mother’s year has been rather difficult so far, it wouldn’t be the best idea to get her one of those Mother’s Day cards that has the serious prose in it. Rather, get her a humorous Mother’s Day card that has a “how did you ever put up with the antics of us kids” theme or a witty mothers day poem.

If your mother has had a good year, then it really depends on the sentiment that you want to express. There are  cards that are quite fancy, with long prose in them, and there are other quite simple ones, in which you can write your own mothers day poem to express your devotion and love for her.

It would be a good idea, though, if the card matched the mothers day gift in some way. For example, if you got her an expensive gift, then the Mothers Day card that accompanies it should also be rather fancy. However, if you got her a simple gift, you can get more of a fancy card or just a simple card, whatever you think is the best choice.

Another option is to make your own special card for Mothering Sunday. This then is a very personal appreciation of your mother. All you need is some construction paper, some markers, and some ideas. For the front of your mothers day card, include a favorite picture of you and your mother. You could always look on the internet for ideas.

Talking about the internet you can also send her an e-card if she also has a computer. E-cards are fun to send, because not only can you personalize them, but you can also choose animated cards. Choosing the right Mothers Day card can indeed be quite a daunting task, but with patience, you are sure to find the perfect mothers day card.

Mothers Day

Even though we love Mom all year long, May 8th is a wonderful time to go all out and show her how much she is appreciated.

If my Mum lived closer to me here is what I would do to put a smile on her face.

Being of English decent I’d start the day with a tea party in the early afternoon - it does not have to be precisely at the stroke of 4:00pm. - Followed later in the evening with a barbeque.

The Tea Party:

Ideally the best place for this event as long as the weather cooperates is outdoors, however it can be just as nice indoors.

Going on the idea that it’s to be outdoors here is how I’d proceed.

Setting The Table:

I’m going to start by using a layered effect with the table linens. As my Mum loves Lavender I’ll start with a solid deep lavender cloth, over the top of that a second cloth in pale Lavender, possibly a small check with soft greens and yellows mixed in. Finishing off with a floral pattern keeping with the lavender, green and yellow color scheme.

Napkins in one of the three colors, folded and tided with a pretty coordinating ribbon and a floral centerpiece will finish it off.

Nothing fussy for the centerpiece, a white pitcher filled with either Tulip’s from the local grocer or silk Roses, Mum’s favorite flower.

The Tea Set:

The perfect tea set would be the Piper Collection from Royal Doulton.
This set has the rich heritage of traditional England. The white background and gold accents can take it from afternoon tea to a formal dinner party. Contents would include the teapot, cups and saucers plus salad plates.

The reason for the small salad plate is your not serving a complete dinner, just finger food, more on that later.

Refreshments:

Keeping in mind that this is afternoon tea, the food will consist of small items that can be picked up and eaten with your fingers.

For example one of Mum’s favorite sandwiches is Cream Cheese & Olives. It’s not a sandwich you’d normally find at an English tea but as I said it is one of her favorites plus it’s simple to make.

One package cream cheese - softened
One small jar of Olives
Cut olives into small pieces, combine with the softened cream cheese and a small amount of the olive juice in a bowl, mix together then spread on bread.
Cut crust from all four corners of the sandwich, and then cut into fours.

Also being served will be a variety of desserts including Strawberry Scones - another of her favorites - shortbread cookies dipped in chocolate, lemon tarts also some type of chocolate cake.

To serve the refreshments I’ll use several two and three tiered serving dishes, on the top of at least one I’ll add whole strawberries - another of Mum’s favorites - with a side dish of whipped - sorry not clotted - cream.

The last order of business will be to sit, pour the tea and spend a few relaxing hours visiting with my beloved Mum.

Take this idea and gear it around something your Mum likes whether it’s a hobby or a vacation spot she loves.
The whole idea is to put together something special for her that shows how much she means to you. She will definitely appreciate your time and effort.

Of course if your not able to put together a party for her, a heartfelt card - maybe hand written - and a bouquet of beautiful spring flowers - Tulips would fit the bill - will be appreciated just as much.

Well, Mother’s Day is coming up on us again. Are you ready to “WOW” your mom with a show of thanks and gratitude? Will you honestly remember what motherhood is all about and what she did for you? To prepare you for adulthood, the stresses of life, teaching you how to make lemon-aide out of lemons.

Some say the Mother’s Day is too commercialized now, but what was it really for to begin with? Originally conceived by Julia Ward Howe after the American Civil War as a day honoring (in her opinion) the inherent pacifism of mothers, Mother’s Day now simply celebrates motherhood and thanks mothers.

The first Mother’s Day as we would recognize it was celebrated in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908, in the church where the elder Anna Jarvis had taught Sunday School. Grafton is the home to the International Mother’s Day Shrine. From there, the custom caught on — spreading eventually to 45 states. Finally the holiday was declared officially by states beginning in 1912, and in 1914 the President, Woodrow Wilson, declared the first national Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day is a busy time of year for mail in many countries. In 1973, the U.S. Postal Service was held up for eight days because of the number of letters and cards.
